Cosy 'Kota' and 'Laavu' restaurants for groups

In Espoo, particularly in the Nuuksio National Park and its surrounding areas, there are several different Lappish tepees, huts and traditional forms of Finnish wilderness shelters that we call 'kota' or 'laavu' in Finnish.

These special event venues are available for private events, dining, and relaxed meetings. Seating capacity ranges from 20 to 70. Most of them are connected to a hotel or meeting venue, making them perfect for atmospheric dinners and festivities at the end of a meeting day. Food prepared by a wilderness chef by open fire will surely be an unforgettable experience for your company's international guests!

Yli-Takkulan tilan kota

On the border of Nuuksio National Park lies the historic Yli-Takkula estate, which offers a variety of venues, including a large and atmospheric Kota (a Lappish shelter/teepee) nestled in the forest. The Kota can be used for dining all year round. Tablecloths and candle lanterns create a cosy atmosphere, and benches covered with lambskins provide a delightful place to sit by the large fire.

The kota also serves as an excellent additional base for sauna sessions. It is located close to the sauna, where you can, for example, fry pancakes over an open fire and enjoy them with coffee brewed in a soot kettle.

  • Capacity: The Kota can accommodate a maximum of 48 people for seated dining or up to 80 people without tables. Upon request, another kota can be set up in the yard, doubling the capacity.
  • Catering: The Yli-Takkula estate provides catering, but as the estate does not have a licence to sell alcohol, you may bring your own preferred food and sauna drinks.
  • Accessibility: The pathways on the Yli-Takkula estate grounds are wheelchair accessible during snow-free times. The Kota and the barn loft are also accessible with assistance. The doorways at Villa Takkula are at least 80 cm wide, and there are two steps at the entrance. The permanent toilets are not wheelchair accessible, but an accessible toilet can be arranged for your event if needed. Please inform us when booking if your group includes persons with reduced mobility and if you require an accessible toilet.
  • Sustainability: Eventure Oy and Yli-Takkula estate hold the Green Activities environmental certification and the Sustainable Travel Finland label.
  • Location and arrival: Yli-Takkula estate is located in northern Espoo (address: Takkulantie 11), less than 30 kilometres from Helsinki city centre and Helsinki Airport. We recommend coach transport. Free parking is available on the premises.

Hawkhill - Korpelan Laavu baquet hall

At the Hawkhill meeting villas in Nuuksio, you will find a stunning Korpelan Laavu, a traditional form of Finnish wilderness shelter. Korpelan Laavu serves as a meeting space, banquet hall, or venue for relaxed evening gatherings – or even cocktail parties – in three seasons by prior reservation. The speciality of Korpelan Laavu is the wilderness chef Anssi Lohvansuu's wilderness cooking course, where participants take on the role of campfire chefs. Under Anssi's guidance, you will learn the secrets of campfire cooking and prepare a delicious four-course meal. This programme is excellent, for example, as a recreation day activity.

  • Capacity: Fine dining for 2–12 people, wilderness cooking for 2–20 people.
  • Catering: From Hawkhill's Forest Restaurant. The catering's carbon footprint is kept as low as possible by offering delicious vegetarian options. When meat is served, it is game or responsibly sourced local meat. The fish offered is responsibly produced and ASC-certified.
  • Accessibility: Korpela's Lean-to is not accessible. Of Hawkhill's eight villas, three have undergone an accessibility assessment, and the accessibility of services is being further developed. For more details, visit Hawkhill's website.
  • Sustainability: Hawkhill has committed its family business to climate work. They have Green Key certification and the Sustainable Travel Finland label.
  • Location and arrival: Hawkhill is located in Nuuksio, on the shore of Lake Kaitlampi. Korpelan Laavu is slightly higher up in the forest, sheltered by an impressive rock face. Coach transport is recommended for arriving at Hawkhill. Please note that the largest charter buses cannot drive all the way to the destination.
