We explored a few different spots, each with its own twist and atmosphere, ensuring a great start to the day and leaving you energized and ready to go. The best part? Many of these spots and several others are easily accessible by metro or local train. There are more than plenty of breakfast options in Espoo, and you can find more information about local cafes and restaurants on our website.


Breakfasts in Espoo are much like the city itself. The selection includes both traditional and trendy options, with innovative offerings from modern and familiar hotels and cafes. You'll find breakfast spots in shopping centers as well as in residential areas. Some breakfast spots are tucked away in surprising locations, while others are right there, open for everyone to visit.

HALME's Bakery and Café (HALMEEN LEIPOMO) - KAUKLAHTI district

In Kauklahti district, you'll find the 124-year-old Halme's Bakery and Café. The cafe is always buzzing with conversation. Although it tends to have plenty of customers, there's always a seat available for those arriving. In the mornings, groups of coworkers and friends visit the Café to enjoy their coffee and fresh bread. Some of them come even daily.

Halme's selection includes a variety of filled sandwiches and croissants. The roast beef-filled options are especially popular and often sell out by midday. The bakery's best-selling product is the "Samba sandwich," available with a range of fillings. Halme's strength lies in its traditional and fresh products, and coffee refills are included in the price.

In the afternoon, people are drawn to Kauppalanmäki by coffee and fresh sweet pastries. One favorite is the handmade “possumunkki”, each with a unique appearance. Seasonal berry pastries are another classic, while the buttery “juorupulla” remains a long-standing favorite. Many customers also buy fresh bread and pastries to take home during their Café visit.

HOTEL MATTS, Restaurant FREJA - MATINKYLÄ district

Located next to the Iso Omena shopping center, Hotel Matts and its Restaurant Freja offer a comprehensive and diverse breakfast selection. You'll find all the essentials for a fulfilling breakfast on weekday mornings. A diverse brunch is also served at Restaurant Freja after breakfast on Saturdays. The breakfast offers a great selection of various dietary options, with a wide range of vegan options. The coffee served is Juhla Mokka, and a special highlight of the breakfast is the quark pancakes.

You can walk to Hotel Matts from the outside, with the metro exit located right next to the hotel's entrance. Drivers can conveniently access the hotel through the shopping center's parking hall, allowing them to enter without going outside. Parking is free for guests of the hotel and restaurant.

CAFE TARINA - TAPIOLA district

You'll find Cafe Tarina by the large windows at the first section of the Ainoa shopping center in Tapiola. Cafe Tarina offers a customizable breakfast where customers can choose their preferred components. Options include gluten-free and vegan oatmeal, boiled eggs, and coffee, among many others. There are also several freshly baked bread options available.

The porridge changes daily, ranging from oatmeal to barley porridge or semolina porridge. During the Christmas season, rice porridge is served as the breakfast option. The porridge and oatmeal are made fresh in the cafe daily, as are most of the pastries.

Cafe Tarina's selection includes many products suitable for various dietary needs. The coffee is brewed using Paulig Roastery's Tarina Blend, which is also available for purchase to enjoy at home. Customers can serve their own filter coffee into their cups, while espresso-based drinks are collected directly from the counter once prepared.

BISTRO RANTA, RADISSON BLU HOTEL ESPOO - OTANIEMI district

Radisson Blu Hotel Espoo is located by the sea, offering stunning marine views in the Otaniemi district. The hotel's restaurant, Bistro Ranta, buzzes with a multilingual atmosphere during breakfast time. The Super Breakfast highlights a variety of seasonal products and local ingredients. A unique feature is the honey produced by the bees located on the hotel’s rooftop.

The breakfast features a wide selection of fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruits, with various berry options available as well. Customers can choose from various options for their omelets, which are prepared individually to order. There are several dietary options available, including both gluten-free and vegan breakfasts.

Bistro Ranta offers a generous and extensive breakfast selection with many different choices for guests to enjoy. During the summer, guests can also enjoy their breakfast on the outdoor terrace.

RAVINTOLA PLATS - HOTEL HANAHOLMEN - Hanasaari island

Hanasaari island is somewhat hidden, even to many locals in Espoo. It's an unexpectedly beautiful place that can be easily missed while driving past or passing under it on the metro. Both Hotel Hanaholmen and Restaurant PLATS are gems worth knowing about. The sea view from Restaurant PLATS is stunning, and in the summer, guests can enjoy breakfast outdoors on the terrace, getting even closer to the Baltic Sea. The terrace offers a panoramic view of the sea in multiple directions.

At Restaurant PLATS, you can experience the spirit of a Nordic cultural center. The restaurant naturally combines Nordic art, design, and gastronomy. PLATS's breakfast emphasizes local ingredients and Scandinavian culinary traditions. Swedish tradition is represented by a wide selection of sweet pastries and Österbotten cheese. Local offerings include Birkkala's spelt porridge, potato flatbreads, and pastries from the Kanniston bakery in Helsinki.
